BAI YOUTH BUILDERS · AGES 14–24 · IN DEVELOPMENT

Choose a real question, form a team and turn your idea into a working product or service.

BAI Youth Builders is a programme model being developed for young people to combine different skills around shared questions and turn ideas into products that can be tested and improved.

Current status

In development · Applications are not open

The programme idea, age paths, proposed stages, safety requirements and example questions are published. There is no live cohort, open call, appointed guide team or verified pilot with real participants. This page describes a design that remains open to review and correction; it is not a promise of delivery.

Ways to contribute

You do not have to be a developer. The new internet needs many kinds of knowledge and craft working together.

01

Games and interaction

Make a question visible through a game, simulation or interactive learning experience.

02

Media and storytelling

Create responsible video, audio, visual, editorial or multilingual content.

03

Code and digital tools

Build a website, mobile application, automation or open digital tool.

04

Research and knowledge

Prepare a sourced guide, collection, learning path or verifiable knowledge project.

05

Data, models and agents

Develop a dataset, evaluation, model or agent prototype with clear limits and human oversight.

06

Design and SEDD

Shape a product so that it is understandable, accessible, privacy-aware and safe to use.

The human side

Know what you are making, why it matters and whom it serves.

Name your sources, carry your task within the team, protect privacy, acknowledge mistakes and do not hand responsibility for decisions to a machine.

Tools and making

Learn today’s tools and use them for the right work.

Code, games, media, research, data and model-based tools are not the goal. They assist meaningful and responsible work.

Two youth paths

Your age, the responsibility you can carry and the support you need shape the path.

The 14–17 path focuses on safe teamwork and producing a real project. The 18–24 path adds team leadership, journeyman responsibility and the long-term care of what is made.

Proposed age path · 14–17

Family visibility

BAI Youth Builders

Ages 14–17: a real question, teamwork, workflows, product development, testing and responsible publication.

Example projects

  • • Web or mobile product
  • • Game
  • • Agent prototype
  • • Professional support tool
  • • Dataset or ontology

Proposed age path · 18–24

Young adult path

BAI Young Pioneers

Ages 18–24: team leadership, facilitating a Circle, journeyman responsibility, and WAQF or NEMA continuation paths.

  • • Institutional project
  • • Open product
  • • Venture prototype
  • • Supervised guidance for a younger team

A supported first role

Starting as a yamak

Yamak is the name we use for a supported first role. It does not make a child or young person a low-value helper or a source of unpaid labour. It is a safe way to observe a new field, ask questions, take on small tasks and learn the EDEB of making alongside a master or journeyman.

Responsibility grows with age, skill, team experience and the ability to care for the consequences of the work. Becoming a Builder is not gaining a title; it means carrying more responsibility for sources, limits, mistakes, correction and maintenance.

Proposed programme path

A path designed to move from an introduction to a Builder circle, then to a shared question and a working product.

  1. 01

    Introduction

Proposed duration: 4–6 weeks · Weekly

Choose a way to contribute and an age path, then make your first safe prototype.

  2. 02

    Builder foundations

Proposed duration: 12 weeks · Weekly

Develop human responsibility, tool use, source practice, teamwork and production skills together.

  3. 03

    Builder circle

Proposed duration: Continuing · Weekly or fortnightly

Take on different roles in a continuing team and contribute to other people’s work as well as your own.

  4. 04

    Mission Lab

Proposed duration: 6–8 weeks · Sprint rhythm

Research a real question, listen to the people affected and build a testable response.

  5. 05

    Build Studio

Proposed duration: 12–16 weeks · Release rhythm

Turn the prototype into a working product, test it, improve it and prepare a responsible publication decision.

  6. 06

    WAQF or NEMA

Proposed duration: Continuing · Periodic review

Open the work to HAYR or establish a path for its care and sustainability.

Questions for shared work

One question can bring different professions, languages and production skills into the same team.

These records are not open calls for participation. They are examples of questions future teams could work on. The aim is to understand a real need in a family, school, profession or community and seek a response together.

Age-appropriate safety and responsibility

Privacy, safety and human oversight are part of how the product is made, not a final checkpoint.

For participants under 18, accounts, communication, personal data and publication are considered separately. No model is presented as the final decision-maker, teacher, friend or religious authority.

Age-appropriate accounts

Tools and accounts are chosen around the participant’s age, the provider’s data policy and, where required, family consent.

Official communication

There is no unsupervised private messaging or unrecorded meeting with participants under 18.

Privacy and data

Personal data is kept to a minimum; sensitive information is not used in prototypes, tests or model inputs.

A separate publication decision

The product, a participant’s name, image and voice each require permission whose scope is clear.

Human responsibility

A model can produce an output; meaning, judgement, publication and responsibility for consequences remain human.

Challenge and correction

Participants can question content, team decisions or publication, with a visible path for correction and withdrawal.

Who should guide this programme?

Teachers, guides, masters and journeymen have different roles; together they create a place to learn and make.

The BAI Guild for Children and Youth Guidance is still being formed. It has no appointed members, boards or programme team. The proposed guild should develop the programme language, tools, circles and safeguarding boundaries together. Professional mastery alone does not authorise someone to work with children; continuing guidance also requires pedagogical and safeguarding competence.

Teacher

Introduces core ideas and skills in language suited to the age group.

Guide

Supports the participant’s direction, team relationships and growing responsibility.

Master

Brings real professional experience from games, code, media, data or another field of making.

Journeyman

Works alongside the team in day-to-day production and connects beginners with the master.

Circle facilitator

Keeps the meeting rhythm, task-sharing and continuity working.

Safeguarding lead

Follows the age, privacy, communication, tool-use and publication boundaries.
